Sandwiches are a pretty versatile meal that can be changed and accommodated to create the exact perfect bite you want. Not only that, but many places even have sandwiches that are popular amongst the region but that may not be able to find as easily if you travel a few states away.

Far & Wide compiled a list of the best sandwich in each state, from cubanos found in southern Florida and lobster rolls in New England to po'boys in Louisiana and the diner classic patty melt in Nevada. The best sandwich in all of Missouri is the Gerber, an open-faced sandwich created in St. Louis. The site specifically shouts out the sandwich at Ruma's, which reportedly served the first one, as well as Gioia's where you can create your own.

This is what the site had to say about the best sandwich in Missouri:

"This St. Louis invention is a toasted, open-face sandwich topped with garlic butter, ham and locally popular Provel cheese (a processed combo of cheddar, Swiss and provolone with a low melting point and a super buttery texture). Try it at Ruma's Deli, the local chain that first invented this sandwich back in 1973. [...] Gioia's, however, is another great option. While they don't technically have a Gerber on the menu, since you can customize your sandwich however you like, it's easy enough to order a delicious iteration of the Gerber here by combining garlic bread, ham and Provel."
