Six people were killed after a small plane crashed in northeast Ohio minutes after taking off Sunday (June 29) morning, officials confirmed to WFMJ.
Two crew members and four passengers were on board the Cessna 441 plane at the time of the crash, which occurred seven minutes after departing from the Youngstown-Warren Regional Airport. The Ohio State Highway Patrol received a call regarding the crash in a wooded area in Howland Township, which is about 2 miles away from the airport, at around 7:01 a.m. local time.
Officials confirmed that the plane was scheduled to land in Bozeman, Montana.
"We are heartbroken to report that there are no survivors," Anthony Trevena, executive director at Western Reserve Port Authority, said at a news conference Sunday.
The bodies were pulled from the wreckage by first responders and transported to the coroner's office. The six casualties' identities will not be publicly revealed until next-of-kin notification.
The National Transportation Safety Board confirmed it was present at the site and investigating the cause of the crash.
"NTSB investigating Sunday's crash of a Cessna 441 in Youngstown, Ohio," the agency wrote in a post shared on its X account.
The Federal Aviation Administration also confirmed it was investigating the incident, according to NBC News. Howland Township Fire Chief Ray Pace said authorities were having difficulties accessing the plane as the crash occurred in a heavily wooded area and could only put out a fire at the site through two intersecting streets and a person's backyard.
